Trouble with Insomnia? Give Acupuncture a Try.
Sleep. Everybody does it. Everybody HAS to do it, but it’s probably one of the LEAST understood of our biological processes. The one thing we DO know is that a lack of enough sleep has been associated to a huge range of health problems including increase risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart disease, and stroke. On average, 1/3 of adults complain of not getting enough sleep. So what do we do? Well, there are a lot of options that people can try. Much of if depends of course, on why they can’t sleep. There is increasing research suggesting that acupuncture is effective in treating insomnia. Studies reveal that acupuncture can mediate levels of neurotransmitters involved in the sleep cycle including norepinephrine, melatonin, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid, and Beta-endorphins.
