What if you’ve heard how amazing acupuncture is but you are TERRIFIED of needles? Despite my amazingly convincing arguments, there’s NO way you let me near with you with needles. What do you do? Well, you DO have options. We recently obtained a new state-of-the-art laser for use in cold-laser therapy. One of the variations of this new laser is a modification that allows the laser to focus into a point roughly the size of acupuncture points. We use the tool to do LASER ACUPUNCTURE. There is some interesting research suggesting that laser stimulation of acupuncture points can cause similar effects as needles. We have also had compelling results here in our clinic for patients wanting ONLY laser acupuncture.
The question is if laser acupuncture is better than regular acupuncture. Well, that’s hard to answer. In regular acupuncture, you can treat all acupuncture points at the same time. With laser acupuncture, you are limited to one point at a time. The anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects of laser therapy are well understood. But how does laser light work on acupuncture points? We are not quite sure, but enough studies have been done to suggest that it DOES work. In my clinic, I’ve had a few patients request laser acupuncture only with very positive outcomes.
